The uniqueness of Blast Taipei lies in its dynamic, active design concept. The designers have abstracted the processes of the Beer Pong game to create a spatial experience that is both mobile and ordered. The use of traditional design elements and modern styling results in a continuous integrated concept that sets this design apart from others.
The realization of this design involved the use of arc-shaped lights to create an exciting atmosphere and maintain a sense of unrestrained freedom. The smooth cement pillar behind the DJ platform, designed to resemble a trophy, serves as a symbol of victory, further enhancing the game-like atmosphere. The crystal ball chandeliers and round lights on the floor, flashing in sync with music, complete the image of a ping pong ball splashing into a cup.
The design team faced several challenges, including the low height of the existing beams and the need to create a space that encourages active participation. The solution was a tiered floor design and ring-shaped lines of motion that allow people to freely enter and leave the game, observe, cheer on players, or participate from a central space. The DJ platform, placed on the central axis of the space, allows the DJ to observe and engage with the entire audience.
The design process began in February 2017 and was completed in August 2017 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The design team conducted research in Hong Kong, where the Beer Pong bar culture is popular, to create a similar vibe for Blast Taipei. The result is a unique bar design that has won the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018.
Studio In2's innovative approach to bar design has resulted in a space that is not only visually stunning but also encourages active participation and interaction. The success of Blast Taipei is a testament to the designers' ability to translate a simple game into a dynamic, engaging spatial experience.
